The sixth Chakra – The third eye chakra – Ajna

Third eye chakra Sixth Chakra Ajna Brow Chakra

The third eye chakra is associated with the element Light.

The Brow Chakra is located in the center of the forehead between the eyebrows. This area is also called the third eye. This chakra is associated with perception.Visually, our eyes take in light through the retina and transmit images to the brain via optic nerves. Because of this, our sense of visual sight is completely dependent on light, which is represented by the 6th chakra.

Yet the Brow chakra represents not only the sense of visual sight, it goes beyond merely seeing with the eyes. It includes the ability to perceive that which is not experienced through the five senses of sight, touch, sound, smell, or taste.

This perception can be thought of as a 6th sense, intuition, clairvoyance or psychic ability. These ideas can be quickly dismissed as “new age nonsense.” Unfortunately, it is very easy to call oneself a psychic and hang out a “psychic for hire” sign. The emergence of those who have found a way to earn a quick buck by taking advantage of the less suspecting have made a bad name for those who truly have been able to tap into their 6th sense. However, it’s important to realize that the existence of many fakes does not negate the existence of those who truly have developed these clairvoyant abilities.

Actually, the ability to tap into clairvoyance and intuition lies within us all. We have only to recognize and harness it. Have you ever had a bad or good feeling about something that turned our to be correct? Chances are you have. This is the work of the sixth chakra. This sense can be developed and fine-tuned through practice, meditation and attentive listening to yourself.

The 6th Chakra

The brow chakra is also the seat of creative visualization and manifestation. It is here in the mind’s eye where all manifestations of outward action begins. Before you turned on your computer and began surfing the internet, you pictured yourself doing it. You may have consciously visualized it, or it may have happened so quickly that it operated on an unconscious level.

Turning on your computer and surfing the internet is a minor life event. However, in the same way that this desire to surf the net became a reality, larger events both good and bad come to begin first in the minds eye.  In this way, we shape our very lives.

This brow chakra is associated with the color indigo. The color indigo has the sixth longest wavelength (430 nm) and sixth slowest frequency (700THz) in the visual color spectrum.

The symbol for the 6th Chakra is an indigo two petal lotus flower. The petals are thought to represent the two worlds of reality: the manifest and unmanifest.

The 6th chakra is associated with the mineral lapis lazuli

Blocks in the Brow Chakra

Blocks in this chakra may result in blindness to seeing the truth and the inability to see or understand reality (being out of touch). Those with blocks may have feelings of self-doubt, inability to trust, or even delusions.

Frequent night terrors also indicate blocks in the 6th chakra.

Three Ways to Open the Sixth Chakra:

  • To strengthen the physical eyes, check out our post on yoga for eyes.
  • Finally, open your mind to practicing creative visualization as a way to manifest positive change in your life. This technique is far from being “new age.” In fact, it is used by and taught to professional athletes, CEOs and other such successful people. You can refer to the book Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain for a better understanding of this technique.
